It's a sad story but true that a network marketer can put months, even years, into building a customer/distributor base for his home business to end up "treading water" rather than expanding further. Is this caused by distributors losing faith or wandering off to find a better deal? Are they seduced by the many offers that seem better than what they have? Is this attrition the hard-working sponsor's fault?
Attrition is a fatal disease for most home businesses and MLMs. Can a marketer cure it? Or is this something best handled by the marketing company's management? Could it be an intrinsic pattern to the nature of the business?
True, there are "jumpers" who move from one company to another in an active pursuit of the latest and greatest "make-me-healthy-and-wealthy" opportunity. The carefully and intricately woven expansion of the internet marketer can unravel like a badly knitted sweater if a leader decides to move his group to another opportunity.
Recently there have been many reports on the health market being the worst for attrition. Some say it is saturated, that there is too much competition, that the prices are inflated and there is always someone coming out with the next miracle pill or juice. It puts a great deal of pressure on you to choose the right company if there are thousands of nutrition companies to choose from. Obviously some distributors are doing well and it would seem they agree on the fact that an expert networkmarketer can make money no matter where he goes.
If you are considering a nutrition or consumable product for your home business, thorough research is vital. You will hear, for example, that nutrition is a multi-billion dollar industry. If you divide that by the thousands of companies, how much money is that for each company? Are they still expanding. How many distributors are there already that want a piece of that pie?
Three factors play a major part in any business success: Supply, Demand and Delivery. Usually, supply and demand are manipulated by price. If a product or service drops in demand, you can lower the price, have a sale, offer a special package. This is rarely how things are done in network marketing. The company expects distributors, not marketers and they lower the price to get you to be one. As a distributor, you need to find the demand and how to supply and deliver exactly what that consumer wants.
A serious distributor who truly wants to build their home business will get trained on these points. There are millions of people looking for a home business on the internet. Are they looking for a vitamin? Or, are they looking for a way to make money. If you don't find the demand, you won't know what to supply.
Another piece of friendly advice to handle attrition is to keep up with what the top earners are doing, make friends with them, check out their websites and take a look at their free information or buy their training. By their success, they have earned the right to be called "authorities." You would do this before attempting any job requiring skill so why not this?
Ideally, you would start with a business that offered not only information about what the top earners do but also provided the whole system in a neat package and all the potential home business person needed to do is plug in the information and follow the video tutorials. Similar to the train-on-the-job programs, the potential home business owner could earn while he learned.
In fact, there are several excellent examples of this on the internet already. Knowledge is power and having working systems and training will save you a great deal of time and disappointment and put you in control. But what about attrition? According to statistics, those who complement their business with a training and marketing system business build their business faster and expand it longer.
Controlling supply and demand is more easily done by getting your distributors a check within the first few months. The sooner he moves from consumer to distributor the better and the income "reduces" the price of the product.
People want something of VALUE with no shelf life. You drink the juice and when it has been drunk, it is gone. Psychologically, that can translate to a lower value. When you research the rise and fall of network marketing companies, do it on a professional level, choose wisely and provide your sign ups with the training they need to succeed.
In looking over network marketing systems, training and businesses, ask yourself if the product is worth the price and if it is in demand. Check out the support offered by the company. Ensure you have a training system that will help those you bring into business. Will they be able to be in profit within the first few months? Would they be happy enough with the product to remain a consumer? What you find out from this will answer how much attrition you may encounter.
